Negroni

Equal parts bitter, sweet and boozy — the great Italian standby.

From the shelf: Tanqueray, plus Campari and sweet vermouth (worth picking up for this one)

Ingredients
  • 1oz gin
  • 1oz Campari
  • 1oz sweet vermouth
  • Orange twist, to garnish
Method
  1. Add all three to a mixing glass with ice.
  2. Stir for 20–30 seconds until well chilled.
  3. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
  4. Garnish with an orange twist.

Gin & Tonic

The reliable one — get the ratio right and it never lets you down.

From the shelf: Tanqueray

Ingredients
  • 1½–2oz gin
  • Tonic water, to top
  • Lime wedge, to garnish
Method
  1. Fill a highball glass with ice.
  2. Add the gin.
  3. Top with tonic water and stir gently once.
  4. Squeeze in a lime wedge and drop it in.

Raspberry Gin Fizz

A pink, fruity fizz built around the raspberry gin already on the shelf.

From the shelf: Whitley Neill Raspberry Gin

Ingredients
  • 1½oz Whitley Neill Raspberry Gin
  • ¾oz fresh lemon juice
  • ½oz raspberry or grenadine syrup
  • 1 egg white (optional)
  • Soda water, to top
Method
  1. Shake the gin, lemon juice, syrup and egg white (if using) hard without ice for 15 seconds.
  2. Add ice and shake again until well chilled.
  3. Strain into a highball glass over fresh ice.
  4. Top with soda water.
