Margarita
Sharp, salty and endlessly reliable — the reference point for every tequila cocktail.
From the shelf: Jose Cuervo Especial
Ingredients
- 2oz tequila
- 1oz Cointreau or triple sec
- 1oz fresh lime juice
- Salt, for the rim
Method
- Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass and dip in salt.
- Add the tequila, Cointreau and lime juice to a shaker with ice.
- Shake hard for 10–15 seconds.
- Strain into the glass over fresh ice.
Paloma
Grapefruit, lime and soda — lighter and easier-drinking than a Margarita.

Ingredients
- 2oz tequila
- ½oz fresh lime juice
- Grapefruit soda, to top
- Salt, for the rim
Method
- Run a lime wedge around the rim of a highball glass and dip in salt.
- Fill the glass with ice.
- Add the tequila and lime juice.
- Top with grapefruit soda and stir gently.
