Margarita

Sharp, salty and endlessly reliable — the reference point for every tequila cocktail.

From the shelf: Jose Cuervo Especial

Ingredients
  • 2oz tequila
  • 1oz Cointreau or triple sec
  • 1oz fresh lime juice
  • Salt, for the rim
Method
  1. Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass and dip in salt.
  2. Add the tequila, Cointreau and lime juice to a shaker with ice.
  3. Shake hard for 10–15 seconds.
  4. Strain into the glass over fresh ice.

Paloma

Grapefruit, lime and soda — lighter and easier-drinking than a Margarita.

From the shelf: Jose Cuervo Especial

Ingredients
  • 2oz tequila
  • ½oz fresh lime juice
  • Grapefruit soda, to top
  • Salt, for the rim
Method
  1. Run a lime wedge around the rim of a highball glass and dip in salt.
  2. Fill the glass with ice.
  3. Add the tequila and lime juice.
  4. Top with grapefruit soda and stir gently.
